I'm Back!

Good morning all! It has been awhile and I apologize for that. I also apologize because I do not have any pictures of the kids so this blog will be more informational than anything.

Brad just loves these little white faced babies. In the past 24 hours I think we have had 4 of them born, like Brad said it is not hard to figure out what our Herford bulls were doing 9 months ago. The brothers only like the all black bovines so every time there is a white face born Brad just loves it! Nothing better then a white faced mama!

We commonly refer to this set as Jayla's set, Our first three heifers were #801-#803, seemed natural.

We have had our first calf and we are happy to say that it is a heifer so she will be sticking around for awhile. This is the first heifer calf this cow has had so we are thrilled, she is a good mama and raises a nice calf every year.

Brad has been busy trying to keep things running smoothly with babies being born, fat cattle needing fed and a wife that is out of commission for the semester. Fortunately he has Kenny and she really is a huge help to him. The good part is, she enjoys it, well part of it anyway. She is not too fond of feeding, but she likes getting to drive the tractors and she loves doing anything with the calves.
Today Kendra has transition day at school where they get to be in 7th grade for the day and see how that works. She was very nervous this morning. Kendra does not do well with change and she has been dreading the whole "high school" thing since this year started. The best thing for her is to go through this day and see it really is not that big of a deal. I can't imagine what her anxiety level would be if she actually went to school at a real school! I was lucky enough to sub in her class last week and I got to hear a paragraph she had to write about the person she most admired, she chose her dad :o)
Unlike Kendra we have discovered Jayla is what you would refer to as a mama's girl! Which I find funny because I am not a sweet and cuddly mom, I'm "mama D" as my family calls me. Poor Brad has his hands full on the days/nights I am away. I keep telling her that if we can make it through this semester, we will have it made, I'm not sure who I am trying to convince more her or me.
Jake is my mother's revenge on me and Brad's mother's revenge on him! We have been having a problem with him and his chores, he thinks he doesn't have to do them. I have found that spanking does not work, yelling does not work so my philosophy has always been if what you are doing is not working, find something else to do. That something else is his Wii, he loves his Wii and I love that I control his Wii :o) A few weeks ago I took his Wii and all things electronic away for four days, he was not happy. He came to me and asked me if I would just spank him instead, that is when I knew we had the secret formula to getting what we want! It has worked like a charm thus far. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh yea I almost forgot, I am taking a class on reading tests and how to administer them. For practice I have been using my own children. I am happy to say that all of our kidos are doing just fine in the reading department. Jake however seems to be doing a little better then average, he tested 6th grade reading level before he reached "frustration level" his "instructional level" was fifth grade. We all kind of knew he was pretty good at reading just by listening to him read to us at night but we were impressed.
Love to all, until next time...which with me may be late May, or early June ;o)
