Happy Easter!
Nothing says sisterly love like trying to tackle your sibling over a small colorful plastic egg that might or might not have $.50 in it, but that is exactly what they are doing.  Never mind the fact that there were 20 other colorful little plastic eggs all around the yard.
Kendra was bound and determined to keep her record of most eggs found.  She always gets the most eggs. much to the disappointment of her sister and brother.  Though as I have pointed out it doesn't matter how many eggs you have it is how much money was in the eggs you find.  Our Easter Bunny puts candy and/or money in our eggs.  Not a lot but usually enough where the kids end up with a dollar or two.
While taking pictures I noticed that Brad and I, or rather our shadows, kept showing up in them.  So I thought I would crop and include, I thought it was kind of neat in a cheesey sort of way.
Jake searched on his own.  He wasn't brave, or stupid, enough to find his sisters for their eggs.  He came in second with the number of eggs but came in last with the money.

With a branding this weekend we ended up dyeing eggs on Easter morning.  We don't hide the eggs we dye so we were able to dye them after the hunt.  We just ran out of time this weekend to do them the day before.  We all love dyeing eggs so much, me included, that it never crossed our minds to let it go this year :)
My branding morning companions.  Sis (the black one) had to be in the house because she just can't seem to be in the right place at the right time when they are bringing cattle down the hill.  "T" was in the house because Jayla apparently thought Sis needed a friend if she had to be stuck in the house.  "T" knows what she is doing and is an awesome little cow dog but some how she was banished as well.
Jake did not get to do much riding but at least he got a minute or two.  Kendra has adopted Dozer and now refuses to acknowledge that he belongs to anyone other than herself.  Jake was able to sneak in for a few minutes of Dozer Time.
This is the aftermath of two days of working with the cattle.  She had a friend come over to help her flank calves and according to everyone I talked to they did very well.  Kendra gets so nervous with new situations that last year she only flanked two or three calves.  She wasn't 100% comfortable with the whole flanking part in the first place and all the kids that were here were the friends of our bosses kids' and therefore had a flanking partner already.  This year she got Jory to come over and help and it was way better.  That is one of the things I love about this job.  They allow the kids to get involved and be part of it, all the kids.  Jayla even jumped on a few with the help of different bosses at different times.
Last week the kid's had their annual field trip.  They went to Wayne for the children's play.  We had lunch at the park in town and while there I had fun with them and my camera.  We kept trying to get a picture with everyone in the air and this was a good as we could get.  Technically they are all in the air.  These are all the girls in Jayla's classroom, the 4th, 5th and 6th grades.
Jake had to join us and this is his "I look like a hawk" picture.
I kept laughing at Jayla because I told her all her pictures made her look like a super hero with her white cape flying up behind her.
Two weeks ago I discovered that I am old, very old.  The kid's youth group went to a concert in Yankton with among other groups we got to see the News Boys and Anthem Lights.  Those were the two groups I enjoyed, the other groups not so much.  Earlier I mentioned that I was old, now I will tell you how I came to that conclusion.  I spent $1.00 on a pair of ear plugs (still don't think it is very Christian to blast the music so loud and then sell ear plug just so your ear drums don't explode) and I wasn't the only one that bought them I might add.  Even teenagers were buying ear plugs, it was so loud you could not understand the words of the song, just the pounding of the beat.  Another thing, it was way to hot in that gym.  I ended up spending most of the evening outside.  The final thing that really sealed the "I'm old coffin" was the fact that when I found out that the concert was going to last until 10:30 or 11:00 I was tee'd off.  My only thought was we still have an hour and a half drive and I have to go to work in the morning.  It was at that point that I knew...I'm old and it is not getting any better :o)  This was a picture of the the girls and the lead singer from News Boys, this was taken at the meet and greet that we did after the concert.
This is Kendra's favorite picture.  Not only is she on her favorite horse but she is with her favorite person, her dad.  She asked me today if I would print this picture out for her so she could put it in her picture frame.
The weather has been so nice lately that the kids have been in spring heaven.  It has been rather dry though, especially for this place.  I am actually hoping that we will get some rain soon.  I had to water my lawn yesterday, in the five years that we have been here I have never had to water our lawn in April.  In fact it is usually July before I turn on a sprinkler.
Mister Tebow wanna be here.  He is determined that he will be a football player when he grows up...good thing he is smart because I am thinking a back-up plan is needed.
I know this blog is kind of long but when I went to add pictures there were just so many of them.  I should have pictures from the branding next blog so stay tuned for that.  We will have another branding here the first part of May and then we will be done with calving for another year.  This year has went so nicely that I can't hardly believe it.  I haven't wanted to throw Brad out a window even once and that is an amazing thing ;)
