COLD, COLD, COLD- Part 2!!!!!

Ok I know my title is not very original but all I can say is It Fits! Today the windchills have reached -20 degrees! Needless to say Brad is a popsicle. Plus things have been crazy today. It started with a phone call this morning at 6:00 from Alvin (our truck dispatcher). Alvin was to start bringing our cows home today but with the wind blowing like it was the drivers were not up for doing it today, Brad was actually a little relieved. He called Dustin (the guy who comes and helps him) and told him that we did not need him for today and then went about his day. I then get a call at about 10:30 from Alvin again saying that the guys who our taking care of our cows at this time don't want to wait. They want the cows gone today so we are back on again and they will be loading at 1:00! Brad gets into the house at 11:00 and tries Dustin again, I had already tried once, but can't get ahold of him. So after hauling the loading chute and the panels over to the pasture Brad hooks up to his trailer and then tries to fill his pick-up up with diesel. But as I mentioned earlier it is a little chilly and the diesel has become gel! So he heads over to meet the trucks, about 40 miles away, on a wing and a prayer. Each time he came in he looked so miserable...I felt sorry for him, he seems to be taking it all in stride however.

**Note: Update on just how cold it really is. Brad called me on his way back and asked me if I would go and hook-up to the panel trailer and meet him on the road to help unload the cows. It took me 15 minutes (boy do I hate admitting that!) of trying to back the pick-up up to the trailer. During which time I am of course talking to myself. You know...giving myself a pep talk, telling myself "how hard is it to back-up?!" Jake in the mean time is in the pick-up watching me. He finally asked me where dad was? I told him he was on his way and that he had to go and load some of the cows. Jake then says "but where is he?" So I repeated that he was on his way, Jake then asked me "Then who are you talking to?" Oh well, if I am going to be his mother then he may as well get used to the fact that I like to talk and often times it has to be to myself because I just talk too much for most people to keep up! ;o) Anyway as I was saying I finally get the trailer hooked up and meet Brad. The first truck is able to back into the gate so that one was easy but the other 2 trucks can not. So instead of using the panels (don't blame him for that it would have taken longer to set them up) we just stand and block them from the road. My dear sweet loving husband takes up his position BEHIND the semi and I take my position FACING the Wind! As many of you know my children get their tear drop issues from me, so as I am standing out there my tear drops start freezing to my face. I actually had to pull off tear drops from my eyelashes so that I could see. Jake thought that it was cool when I got back into the pick-up because he got to grab one of my tears. Later after all the cows were safely back home I went out with Brad to watch the gate while he feed. On my way out to the pick-up I fall...and I mean flat. My husband did try very hard not to laugh, he asked all the right questions..."Are you alright?" "Can I help you?" All I could say to him was I QUIT!! Take me back to Colorado where it is warm! Now I know all of you in CO are saying "Hey it is cold here in CO too", but there is just something about the humidity in the air that makes it seems so much worse! But today was a new day and I am back to being my regular, happy, go lucky person. Oh, and you will be happy to know that Brad did not laugh at me until later that night :o)

The pictures this posting are only of Jake because he seems to be the only child around when I have the camera. The girls are doing good though. This Sunday is Jayla's birthday and it is also Super Bowl Sunday. Brad is very happy...cake and ice cream and Football!! Jayla is a little bummed though because she thinks daddy gets in a Zone when he is watching football. He has promised her that he will be good and play with her too.

These pictures are proof that boys as well as girls like to give themselves haircuts. At least with him I can just buzz his little head and no one will be the wiser. With Kendra we had to chop her hair up to her ears to make it look normal.
