Now where was I, ah yes the family reunion. Be sure you start with part 1 of Family, Friends and Flooding or you will be hopelessly lost, OK not really but there is a natural flow that you will disturb.
As I was saying we headed down to the Springs to meet up with some aunts and uncles and see some cousins I haven't seen in 15+

years and meet their children for the first time ever. It was very nice. Now that mom has a house rather then an apartment there was plenty of room for everyone to get together. You take 10 pizzas, chips and lawn chairs and you have got yourself a party Evans style!
Most of these family members were from the Oklahoma/Texas area with a few from New Mexico thrown in. It occurred to me at the end when all the kids were whining that they were bored that I truly am older. I can remember being the annoying teenager that kept whining that I was ready to leave and asking "How much longer" every 5 minutes to my parents as they sat

around a table laughing and drinking coffee with the other adults. Well this time we were all the adults and a whole new generation was asking the age old question of "How much longer?" and in typical adult fashion we kept telling them "not much longer" hoping to appease them long enough to visit another 5 minutes uninterrupted.

After meeting with family in the Springs we headed to Denver to meet up with my sister and Rob. They had spent the past week in Jamaica f

or Robert's graduation. We barely got to see them at all, was so glad we did though. My sister and I left the men to do their thing and we headed into downtown to do a little pottery painting. The kids loved it and will have some nice keepsakes to have in a few weeks, once they have been fired and picked up.Kendra painted a cat and gave it really evil eyes...not sure how that one is going to turn out, hopefully the firing process will make it look nicer or at the v

ery least just not quite so evil. Jake painted two things, a football "trophy" and his buddy "Dust Bunny". In Jake's mind Dust Bunny just won the Superbowl and the football is his trophy. I asked him if he realized that the trophy was bigger then the player and he res

ponded "yea" so obviously it doesn't bother him :o)
Jayla painted a tea set. Jayla is our artsy girl so I think she enjoyed the outing the most. Being as we live up here in no man's land there are not a lot of opportunities for her to experience some of these things so I am thankful for any chance we can get.
Now for many these activities would be enough for one weeks worth of vacationing but as I mentioned earlier there are not a lot of chances to do things up here so we take advantage when we can. That being said we also hit the Denver museum of nature and science. It was just the kids and I being as dad was tired of all the playing and I thought it would be a good chance for me and the kids to spend some time

together without dad's anti town mentality (those of you who know him know what I mean) and it would give Brad and Ellen some time to visit. We even got to do the planetarium this time. At one point Jayla leaned over to me and whispered "it's like we're moving" I told her this was a true 3D movie experience.
On to the flood, well not really a flood for us but a flood for some of our town folks. On the way home Brad was called by one of his bosses and told that there had been some very strong winds and a lot of rain so we were not 100% sure what we were coming home to. The night we got home we received an additional 2 1/2 inches

of rain and it was just too much for our Ponca creek to handle. The water has since went down but has left a hellish muddy mess behind. The town pool had opened on Friday but had to close and now the

re is no telling how long it will be before they will get it open again. The pool itself was not affected but all around it was and you can't get to it with out trudging through mounds of mud and debry.
We got our share of water here in the yard. Below are a few pictures of our feed pen and driveway. The sun has been shining for 2 days now so I think an end is in sight. All we will need to fix the holes is a loader tractor and a driver that wont make the holes worse...guess that leaves me out :o)
