You know that it is bad when even your horse is freaked out about a puddle of water! Brad had to spend some time on Monday introducing Lou-Lou to a puddle. At first it really confused her...What is this wet stuff on the ground. Being as Lou, like her owner, is a dry lander born and raised puddles have not been something she has come in contact with very often. She has been up on the wheat field for the past few months and hasn't got to experience all our puddles as of yet. So they were really freaking her out...and a freaked out horse is not a very rideable horse. Especially when you are getting old like Brad and can't hang on as well as you use too :o) When all was said and done Brad had her calmed down and even allowed her to soak her feet for a minute, just like one of those fancy horse therapy places. True our water wasn't clean or clear but I can assure you it was mineral rich :o)
Earlier in the day when the kids and I were coming back from meeting the bus we stopped and
We had a couple of the brothers here over the weekend since we were supposed to brand on Saturday. Being as all our calves looked like they were fresh out of the shower those plans were rescheduled to this Saturday. While they were here though one of the brother's youngest son and Jayla "saved" three little rat like creatures from an untimely death due to an over excited lab puppy. While out playing Jayla and Cole heard something screeching so they went over to investigate and found a nest and 5 babies, one of which was in the mouth of Izzy the golden lab. They immediatly went into "Animal Rescue" mode and saved the three that were still alive.
When they brought them to me and asked if they could keep them and help them I don't mind telling you my first reaction was I am not bottle feeding a rat!! Which is what they looked like as you can see. After a little googling we discovered that they were baby cottontails. We fed them for a few days but after three days the poor things were finally done in by a three foot giant that flipped their box upside down and squashed them with the water bottle I had in it to keep them warm. Our poor three foot
giant, also known as Jake, felt so bad. We told him that there were still a lot of baby bunnies out there so maybe we could find some more. Personally I am hoping that they do not look too hard.
*Notice the small soccer ball inside of the box. This was given to Flopsy, Mopsy and Jay-cola (a combination of the two names that saved them...Jayla and Cole) by Jake. He was sure they would need something to play with. Once when one was moving around the box they ran into the ball and Jake said "See...he's playing with my ball, he likes it!" I just said yep, he sure does.
